Even then would it not be cheaper to get bulk standard blank pre-printed
cheques from a commercial printer, a printers who can pass on economy of
scales when it comes to volume?

YES ... It is still a "thing". While Electronic transfers are most common
there are situations where a check is the only solution. We write checks for
scholarships that are presented to the scholar but payable to the
institution. We assist people in need and the elderly who don't handle
technology well.

We even write checks to folks with a sarcastic sense of humor.

Is that still a thing?

I would have imagined that -- at least in states -- with bank-to-bank ACH
and BillPay available it would have eliminated needing paper checks. Most of
the US institutions now days charge to handle paper check after it has been
cashed in and even then they want you to pre-process it, and convert it
into a digital image.

Yes, I have the preprinted forms but in my old age, I can't remember how in
linux to print new checks using those forms. I know it sounds silly but
that's where I am at 82.
