[GNC] Problem--probably simple for ya'll, but not me!!!!!!

Your system may  claim it is up to date, but you may not have the box
checked to tell it to notify of new major releases.

I'm not on Linux at the moment, and I run Ubuntu, not Mint, but the update
software has settings where you can turn on or off notification of the
major updates.
