Just a thought.

Since you are editing the txn to put in the actual number charged, seems to me 
the best workaround is to schedule it for 1st of month and press the minus key 
once in the date field to show the previous day before editing the amount.

or have i mis-understood your workflow?

And yes, the ability to enter "-1 day in advance" sounds like an ideal fix (not 
that I know the code involved in the slightest - I can well imagine that 
entering -1 days would result in something like 32000 days in advance)!
