[GNC] GNUcash opens, shows correct database, no keyboard response

I was successful in using a copy of my data while travelling, and again
after I returned home. I have also updated over the last 5 days with no
issues. Backups made - everything 'hunky-dory'. I shut down overnight.

This morning, I started up as usual, and GNUcash (GC) loaded, and showed my
most recent database, and navigated to the account I needed.  I selected
the next empty transaction line to enter my data, and the program did not
accept my keyboard input ===  stalled completely - No Response on the
window frame.

I shut down GC, read an email, updated a spreadsheet, then after 2 minutes,
restarted GC.

Again GC loaded, I was in the account I needed, started typing and No
Response on the window frame.

This time, when I restarted (start #3), I was told the file was locked, and
I opened it anyway to make a new copy (new filename) as I have done before.
Again, I started to input the new file name, and the typing was No Response
and the stall.

Any thoughts on how to fix this?
