Unfortunately, this kind of thing is rampant. It's one of the very first
things people are told to look for when being given even the most
rudimentary of online self-protection training. URLs with subtle
misspellings, use of .net, .org, .usa, etc. are some of the simplest
tricks used by bad actors to gain access to people's computers. And,
particularly for Gnucash, as people constantly confess when asking a
question, "I'm not good with computers I just want to manage my
finances". Which means they are very vulnerable to these kinds of scams.
I'd imagine the crims are doing their best to "train" the latest crutch,
AI, to provide so-called "answers" that steer people to their sites, too.
Like Kurt Russell said in The Thing, "Trust is a tough thing to come by
these days".
