[GNC] From Reddit: gnucash.net is a malicious site

While our generation is somewhat literate of, there is whole slew of population that is just not up-and-up with it.

I remember my dad in his early 80s age was trying to renew his car registration and searched Google. He clicked on the first link that showed up on the list thinking that it was a DMV but in actuality landed on a business that "facilitated" for an additional fee of $100 with a promise of immediate printable renewal at hand. He, sadly, didn't understand that it was not the actual DMV online that he was dealing with, which would have done the same for no additional fee.

Unfortunately, this kind of thing is rampant. It's one of the very first things people are told to look for when being given even the most rudimentary of online self-protection training. URLs with subtle misspellings, use of .net, .org, .usa, etc. are some of the simplest tricks used by bad actors to gain access to people's computers. And, particularly for Gnucash, as people constantly confess when asking a question, "I'm not good with computers I just want to manage my finances". Which means they are very vulnerable to these kinds of scams.

I'd imagine the crims are doing their best to "train" the latest crutch, AI, to provide so-called "answers" that steer people to their sites, too.

Like Kurt Russell said in The Thing, "Trust is a tough thing to come by these days".
