David, Please reply to list. I am not a developer, just an evperienced
user. If you attached files they didn't come through. I understand inline
attachments don't work, and in any case, be sure to sanitize anything
before you send, as they go through the clearnet. I see that you do not
have a plain vanilla windows 11 installation. The developers may need to
know a little more about that without rervealing any security information.
I know nothing about W11.
Lastly, before you try to import quicken data, review others' advice mostly
suggesting that it may be a better choice to tie off history without
importing it into GnuCash.
I did. The download is gnucash-5.14.setup.exe. And I downloaded it from the
org website.
All failures result in GnuCash disappearing with the same error. The event
viewer application error shows Event 1000 :

That said, a Quicken Classic error is causing a crash at each opening, and
I haven’t so far had any success with Quicken support getting it fixed. I’m
sure, with 25+ years of Quicken data, it won’t be easy to make a change to
GnuCash, but I may attempt it; however, the first effort will be to fiddle
with it for a while to see whether it will satisfy my needs. After many
days of trying to solve both GnuCash and Quicken problems on my own, for
some reason I have a suspicion that both errors may be related to the .NET
version set up on my desktop. W11 comes with version 4, but some
applications I use regularly require 6 or 8 and will soon be requiring 10.
If that rings a bell with you regarding GnuCash, we can pursue it. But my
first suspect is applications are stepping into the same code, which should
be at different levels.
The problem is obviously with my desktop, as I installed both Quicken and
GnuCash on an HP laptop and they both run fine. The desktop is heavily
loaded, essentially a home server, installed on new hardware in April 2025.
The HP is not a secure device, so I refuse to run either of these
applications there; I installed simply to test.
One last thought. I installed Quicken in the W11 Sandbox, with the same
crash. But I’m not sure how much a Sandboxed app is separated from the
standard system. I could install GnuCash in the sandbox as well if
requested to do so.
Thanks in advance for assistance. I’ve read a lot of good reviews of
GnuCash over the last several years.

David Dalton,
Please verify that you started by downloading the current release 5.14 from
the GnuCash. Org website rather than an earlier version, which you then
installed, etc.

Yes you can because you have: This is the support channel.
That’s probably because your antivirus quarantined that library. Move it
from the quarantine directory (which varies depending on what antivirus
you’re using) to the install directory that defaults to c:\Program Files
(x86)\gnucash\bin.
