[GNC] New question: designating classes for expenses.

Description & Notes are for the entire transaction and the Memos are for
a particular split.

But if you view any register affected by any particular transaction ALL
of the info for that transaction shows up. If you are using Basic view
mode, you may only see Memos for simple transactions listed in each
respective register, but if you turn on Auto-Split or Transaction
Journal view, you'll see that all of the info is always there,
regardless of register. (same when using the Journal)

Putting tags/classes in Memo fields and matching to that can be used in
conjunction with reports and selecting only certain accounts. Thus, a
tag of #vacation in a credit card account won't show up in a report if
you limit the report to say an Expenses:Travel account. This can be
helpful to not duplicate info in a report. Utility depends on each
individual and their goal with each report.

Since the report Filter can use Regular Expressions, it is possible to
initially filter based on a Transaction-level tag in the Description or
Notes, then refine by a Split-level tag in Memos. (and again, this can
be in combination with Account selection and filtering as well)

There's no official documentation for this. You'll just have to play
around with it and find something that works for you.

Regards,
Adrien
