 From the Register page go to Reports -> Account Register Report.  Then
you can print that.

Okay, please define "true general ledger"...  Please file a bug report and
supply the format exactly as you expect to see it.  It's possible that
GnuCash DOES have the report you're looking for, but labeled something else.
