Where to use country codes

I did tests with Ubuntu with Lithuanian locale:
valdis at studio:~$ env|grep -i lang
LANG=lt_LT.utf8
GDM_LANG=lt_LT.utf8

Gnucash correctly starts using Lithuanian even Lithuanian is defined as
simple lt.
So, it seems
http://www.mail-archive.com/gnucash-devel@gnucash.org/msg23364.html is
not
correct anymore (at least for Ubuntu).

can you (or anybody) make these changes similarly to Lithuanian and I'll
check that this didn't hurt anything.
Probably you can even save account scheme under simple lv, as other
possible schemes are possible only theoretically.

I checked that OpenSuse 11.2 by default use en_US.utf8, it does have
Lithuanian but no Latvian localization. 

I couldn't find guides how to build Gnucash on opensuse, so I can't test.

Is binary packages or simple copy-paste guide available?
