I use S.u.S.E. for quite some time now, and one think I have learned is: 
*Do not use RedHat rpm's on a SuSE machine*
RedHat and SuSE have quite a lot of differences in directory structure.
When compiling from source, I was able to make everything work (at least 
till now :))
