crash recovery?

My X server died, taking gnucash (v. 1.6.6, debian testing) down with
it. I hadn't touched gnucash in a half hour or more.

I brought up gnucash again, but the last batch of transactions I'd
entered are missing.

I'd thought gnucash logged these things. Is there a way to recover
this old work? I thought "enter" was sort of like "commit."
