<BALAMT> element in OFX files

Hello all--

I am downloading .OFX files from my financial institution to import
accounts from their online banking service into GnuCash. It does not
seem that GnuCash is using the <BALAMT> element to set the opening
balance when I create a new account for the data in the file. Is this
the way it's supposed to be or am I doing something wrong? Thanks for
any help anyone can offer.
