help with crash

Until today I was a happy user of gnu cash. Now the program is crashing
for some unknown reason when it is trying to create a scheduled entry. I
get the following message in the terminal window.

** ERROR **: file dialog-sxsincelast.c: line 1604 (sxsincelast_init):
assertion failed: (nextPage)
aborting...
Abort

This happens with 1.8.5 and 1.8.8.

Does anyone have any ideas how I can get around this problem?
