Can't open account

I needed to do a clean re-install of FC3 and so I backed up up my /home
directory; did a clean install; and then moved /home back to its
original location.

Now that I am trying to open GnuCash I get the error message the my
original accounts "can't be found". 

So I then try and open them by going into the programme and opening
Account Summary. I get another error message saying: "This file/URL
appears to be from a newer version of GnuCash. You must upgrade ..."

Now the problem is that is not so. I have the most recent version of
GnuCash (8.1.11) and, just as important, I have the same version (as far
as I know) that I had when I created the accounts int he first place.

Does anyone know what is going on here and what to do about it?
