I had wondered about the html2textrc, because I couldn't even find the config
file on a thorough search of the system including /etc. I thought maybe the
default config was embedded in the standard program making that file only
optional to change behavior and none of the settings described in man pages seem
relevant. For what it's worth, I should add Andrew's html2textrc if he can send
it to me off list.
Maybe this will allow html2text to outdo the Firefox/OPenoffice combo...but I
bet it won't allow adjustable column widths that Open Office offers.
thanks Ty

Well, I can only assume there is something going on in your configuration of
html2text. There are some configuration files ~/.htm2textrc and /etc/html2textrc
that affect how the program parses the html and maybe you have some setting that
is causing the line breaks.

A quick perusal of man html2textrc shows nothing obvious but that doesn't rule
it out. If you have either or both of these files, you might try temporarily
renaming them and see what happens.

that's all I got for that.
