This shows you bought 4000 shares at .0895/share for a total price of 358.

That's because it's not converting 4000 CQV to 358 USD.

Because the account is in CQV, and it's showing that you have 4000 shares.
That's exactly correct.

I don't know what help you need...  Gnucash is functioning properly.
Are you hoping that the account tree will convert the value up?  If
so, then you should add the "Total in Report Currency" column to the
account tree and then make sure you've got a PriceDB entry for the stock
price.
