I would think the thread is about solving the problem, instead of just
whining. The first step in solving the problem is to turn a description
of symptoms ("it doesn't work in Ubuntu") into the root cause ("the
composite extension does foo and bar which causes the window not to be
updated").

So it is helpful if you turn the whole "visual effect" whizbang off,
Composite off, and notice that the problem goes away; and then turn
_only_ Composite on, and the problem returns. That way, the developers
know in more detail where to look.

I am not a Gnucash developer and I'm not in a position to fix the
problem though. I'm just trying to help.
