What Derek is saying is that gconf uses ORBIT, and Gnucash uses gconf. The problem is in gconf, not Gnucash. This has been true since 2008 at least (see http://lists.gnucash.org/pipermail/gnucash-user/2008-November/027283.html for the last entry on the thread).

This is not a bug; it's a decision by gconf/ORBIT. It seems to me the path for changing this is to contact the gnome/gconf folks (see http://projects.gnome.org/gconf/)
