Quicken 2005 User Looking To Move To GnuCash - Have some questions

I did this several years ago, so I don't recall all the details. As I
recall, I exported a QIF file from Quicken, then imported it into
GnuCash. It would not import completely. Then I realized that the QIF
file is in plain text, so I could sort of figure out the format. But
there were a huge number of entries, so finding the place where it
failed seemed daunting. Then I recalled my computer science training, in
particular, binary search. I split the file in half, imported each half,
and determined the bad half. I then split the bad half into half and
kept doing this process until I located the problem.
The problem was that Quicken allowed me to make some accounting errors
since it does not use a double entry system. GnuCash would not allow that.
As I recall, Quicken is prettier, but I consider that much less
important than accuracy. When I discovered that Quicken was much more
forgiving of my errors, I was completely sold on GnuCash.
