GNU Cash installation issue

I'm not sure what went wrong. There have been other reports similar to this 
one, but we never managed to figure out why exactly this happens in some 
installations, while it doesn't happen in others.

My first guess is that your firewall is blocking network connections to 
"localhost" (which is in fact your pc itself).

Which firewall software are you using ? And can you try to figure out if it is 
blocking connections to/from "localhost" and/or "127.0.0.1" ?
