How to export Vendors/Customers?

There seems to be no obvious way to export vendors, customers, tax
tables etc, so I was wondering if anyone has written a script or has any
python code examples about how to accomplish such a task.

Importing/exporting vendors/customers/tax tables would be useful as a
feature especially for those who plan to keep a separate book for each year.
