accounts + sub account balances in reports

The "Income Statement" (aka "profit & Loss" aka "Statement of Revenues") 
would be the report for expenses and yes, you can choose to have to 
totals shown in different ways (and even in combination of ways). I 
suggest you try the various options and then decide which of them you 
prefer.
