Now tell us where you keep your data file and whether it is in the
default form with a .gnucash suffix.  Is it remote, say in a cloud, for
example?
When the program opens does the data open automatically or do you need
to select the data file from the GnuCash File menu?  Have you changed
any of the backup options from the defaults set by GnuCash?
