Where does gnucash store report ingo in Windows 7???

I miswrote. I was responding to GCMAB's suggestion that the data file would be in that location; of course, I know that no one should put their data file in the dotfile folder (from reading, mind you), and mistakenly implied that one might make such a terrible choice. Thanks for catching that.

No, no, NO! Don't *ever* try to store your account files in $HOME/.gnucash/books! That's the one thing you can do that will guarantee data loss: Gnucash uses that for configuration files (like which tabs are open) with the same name as your account files. so your account file will get overwritten with configuration data and the original contents lost.

N.B.:  It's actually $GNC_DOT_DIR/books, which by default points to $HOME/.gnucash/books except on a Mac, where it points to $HOME/Library/Application Support/gnucash/books.
