How to report split transactions

Even more weird.  If I run that report on a search window containing
several transactions then it does show the split details for all the
transactions.  Not so when run from an account register, then it just
shows the word split and one amount.  I wonder how it decides which
amount to show.  I also wonder how it will behave in the 2.5.x series.
