Cannot save settings/preferences

In addition to this you can also check your firewall permissions. If it doesn't allow access to 
address "localhost" and/or "127.0.0.1" then preference saving may fail.

And before you ask: localhost and 127.0.0.1 are not on the internet. They are virtual network 
interfaces on your own pc and using them will not cause any data to leave your computer. 
Microsoft however has decided to treat these differently than is commonly the case in the 
rest of the computer world and as such you get to fix it yourself sometimes.
