Where does Gnucash save it backup files when using mysql data source

I didn't mean, backup of the mysql data base. Also, I agree with you.
I decided not to give access to the user account to create new
databases. My suggestion was an export to something similar to what you
are already using with your "save as".
My use of the word, "backup", was a mistake. You already have the
feature that I was describing. Again, the feature in it's current state
is, "save as". It works perfectly in it's current state. I'm hoping
that you will consider this "save as" feature that you already have as a
user's preference configuration to specify a directory on his local
system, and automatically "save as" when exiting, giving the files an
incremental name.
To me that would be better than nothing.
By the way this thread had been going, I'm sure there can be a hundred
reasons not to. But I hope you don't mind me addressing and helping
with those reasons one by one.
Again, the feature already exist. I use it. Just before exiting, I
click on "save as", save the state, then exit. I'm just asking for
considerations of saving a step by having it do this automatically when
I click on exit... or better yet, have it prompt the user to save when
exiting.
