Okay, now that I see what you're talking about..... This page does NOT
always appear. It only appears when it's needed which is only on some
platforms some of the time. If it's not needed (like it wasn't on your
system) then it does not appear.
It also only appears once.

I'm sorry you feel that way but of course only you can convince yourself.
However I would suggest you do take a few more minutes to attempt to use
GnuCash, ignoring the "Cannot find default values screen" because clearly
on your system gnucash *CAN* find its default values.
