Hi, David.

You're most likely right about the discussion about how the data is
saved and were. But as far as asking Russellji about where Windows
would automatically put configuration files, I already have the answer
to that. I thought I had touched upon that.

Look at the topic of his question again. He appears (by his subject
title) be looking to specify where his data is stored. Some of the
details of his description indicated (which he included in his
description) that he is very novice on this ("newby"). So I wouldn't
expect for his details to be as clear as you appear to specify. I
attempted to make some clarity about the difference between the OS work
space for the application which isn't the actual data files and the
actual data file and storage and how to specify where.

I'm certain he was browsing his local space and felt his data files were
in the directory he saw as .gnucash.

It would take a bit of advance tampering to modify the OS behavior
(which the .gnucash space is about). If he succeeded in changing this
to a removable drive, he'd actually break gnucash and may have a hard
time fixing it.

If I didn't make that clear, that is some of what I had intended to
insinuate while trying not to be so technical (for a newbie). Again, I
also tried to read into what he was looking for, which to me appeared to
be very clear... and provide a very simple method of achieving that.

He can (and should) have a number of data files (when you count the
backups). If made changes to the OS and were some how able to force the
.gnucash space to be created on a removable drive, he might have
problems with all his backups and other versions of his actual data. If
he broke the OS, he might find that he might have to actually reinstall
his OS to fix glitches or identify the glitches that could develop when
trying to use gnucash.

Thanks for the input and question, giving me the opportunity to elaborate.
