gnucash wont load after OS update

I doubt that the OS upgrade touched either your desktop or your preferences directory (in large part because I've had that update on two macs without problems), but something has removed "file" from the URL of the last-opened file. You could try using Time Machine to restore ~/Library/Preferences/org.gnucash.Gnucash.plist.

Did you try using File>Open to select and open your accounts file?
