Mac users have a huge problem, I think! Gnucash won't open anything now

John,
Yes I did choose to continue without saving.
Thank you. Somehow I have been able to open one of the files I need, but not sure if I will be able to open the others I need. When I choose the file>open dialog, and I run through my list of files to choose one that I need, it tells me it can’t find the file. That, of course, is because I have moved and renamed some things. Is there a way around this?

GnuCash will wait for you to dismiss that dialog box by clicking "Close" and until you do you won't be able to do anything else with GnuCash.

When you do that it will ask you if you want to save the empty book: Tell it to "Continue Without Saving".
