Data Entry Problem

I have to plead ignorance about how basic ledger view works because I never
use that view myself.

However, upon re-reading your first post I wonder if you see both split
lines for the checking account and the expense account in the Split view
and Transaction journal view for every transaction including the recent
suspect transactions.

Also I wonder how automatic checks post themselves into Gnucash. I always
have to download and import them manually.
