having trouble starting

Hi,

The "Welcome" dialog only apears the very first time you run gnucash.  If
you have *ever* run gnucash in the past then it wont reappear.

Having said that, if all you have is the Open and Close buttons, you have
a few choices:

1) If you have any data, you can create a New Accounts Page to view it.
2) You could run the New File Assistant.
3) You can run the New Hierarchy Assistant.

Before you go any further -- 2.6.1 is VERY old and quite buggy.  You
really should upgrade.  There are newer packages available on GetDeb.
