Account types may be set up as "Asset", "Liability", "Equity", as well as
others, including specifically "Bank".

accounts or select from the Actions menu bar the action for "New Account".
In that creation window there is a choice for Account Type.

The allowable account types differ based on the *parent* account - you can
only create other Income/Expense accounts as a subaccount of an Expense
account for example.

A bank account would be listed under a top-level account of type Assets (if
none exist, you can create one, and for the Parent Account select "New top
level account"). For subaccounts of an asset account, you can select "Bank"
as the account type.
