[GNC] Lost all data after install

At each step you should do File -> Open   and then File -> Save As
Be sure to Save-As to a *new* file so as to not overwrite the old one.

At some upgrade stages you may be able to skip the Open, as it may
remember the last one (although if you have multiple data files it will be
the last one you had open).

This auto-open didn't work across all major releases.
