What version of GnuCash will work with OFX depends on what OS you're using. It's true that with the Windows and MacOS bundles 3.8 won't work, but if you've installed 3.8 on Linux it will depend upon what version of AQBanking the distribution that you use provides.

In the case of MacOS and Windows you can pretty simply install an older version (3.7 for MacOS, 3.6 for Windows) from our SourceForge or Github sites.
