As an alternative way to enter several transactions earlier than the current date and leave the cursor at the bottom, you could try filtering the current view of an account in the register so that only the most recent transactions are visible. That way, when you complete the historic transaction, it will be filtered out and the cursor will stay on a blank transaction at the bottom of the screen.
