It's a long term goal of gnucash to become a true database application. How 
long the term will be is hard to tell now. The current (small) set of developers is 
first focusing on the c++ rewrite which is considered a prerequisite of further 
work towards database refactorings. More help is welcome so if you know people 
that would be interested to help out, please send them our way ;)
